How do I disable 2-step verification for good? EVERY SINGLE TIME I log in, makes me jump through hoops. From the log-in page I enter my email and password, and it will email me a link to verify my identity. The link takes me right back to the log-in page, where I have to log in a second time. Then it takes me to the "Enroll in 2-step verification" page, but there is NO option for skipping it. I have to give it a phone number, wait for the call, and enter the code. Sometimes it lets me in. Sometimes it insists on a second phone call. Sometimes it gives me the photo puzzle.
I always disable 2-step verification once I'm finally in, and it ALWAYS makes me turn it on again every time I need to log in again. PLEASE somebody help me fix this!
Hey @hammermuseum - I see this is your first post! Welcome! 😊
If you would like to disable your 2-step verification, you can disable it from Dashboard ( Account & Settings > Personal Information > Sign in & Security > Two step verification > Manage two step verification> Turn off Two-step verification).
If you continue to have issues please contact support. I think @ryanwanner makes some really great points below so just keep that in mind if you do choose to disable. If you need anything else please let me know.
Hello @hammermuseum !
This mostly sounds like a browser issue regardless if TFA is enabled or not. Is your browser set up to remove cookies and/or clear the cache when you close it? I have it set up that way and have to get a text code on each login when I close my browser.
It also could happen if you're using a VPN or incognito mode when you browse. Both cases Square doesn't know if it's you and will throw the TFA check.
Simply put, TFA is something that I wouldn't want disabled. There are too many bad actors in the world that would love to get access to Square's back end systems, and leaving your system with just an email/password login without additional verification is one of the easiest ways to bypass security. If they get access to the systems via your login then figure out how to go further into the network, all 3 million+ sellers have the potential to see a data leak. Bad news for everyone.
So, without disabling the TFA, here are my suggestions to make it easier for you:
-Use the Passkey login with a recognized password program.
-Make sure you're selecting the "Don't ask for 90 days" option when the site asks for the TFA
-Don't use a VPN or incognito mode when logging into Square
-Set your browser's settings to keep the cookies from Square's ecosystem
With those steps, you should only see the TFA option once in a great while. Especially with the Passcodes, I haven't had to wait for a TFA response in quite some time.
