2 businesses from one point of sale

Hi, I need to run two businesses from one point of sale screen.

We have recently sublet half our brick and mortar store to another business but need to run all sales from the same point of sale screen and preferably have sales from both businesses go to two seperate bank accounts. Is there a way to do this and only have the customer pay once. We want to make our transaction process as smooth as possible instead of asking the customer to pay in two seperate transactions.

Hi @creekandbay,

Thanks for writing in with this question!

At this time, there's no way for your customer purchase items from both businesses in one transaction, and have them transferred to two different bank accounts. You could consider adding each store name to your items, and manually settle payments from your end once you receive the funds from Square. Setting up two points of Sale would be the only way to ensure you can take payments for each business with funds going directly into your respective bank accounts.

HI @creekandbay ,

I think there's going to be a compromise one way or the other..

There is support for multiple businesses in square, you'd probably set this up by creating an additional location. Unfortunately I believe your device can only be associated with one location so this isn't really going to work.

There is support for multiple bank accounts, however this again is tied to locations. You can register multiple bank accounts and use one per location for fund transfer.

If you want to use the one POS then you are going to need to come up with a more creative solution.

If it were me, I'd organise my products into categories that define the business, that way you could potentially had items from both business in the one transaction. The downside of this is you are going to need to manually (using reporting) apportion fees, and there can be only one bank transfer, you'd then need to transfer the balance from the destination account to the other business.

It may be worth duplicating the hardware, that way you can use 2 locations (at the same premises), but you would need to use the right checkout for the appropriate items.

Someone from Square may step in and propose a different/better solution or confirm what I've outlined above.

Regards,

Bruce
