restaurant online store - how are these orders received?

Im in the process of having a recommedned designer build an on line order menu for our restaurant.

How are these orders recieved at the restaurant? Do I require another printer or additional equipment?

Also, are there any printed material showing step by step on how to make changes ( ie; pricing, photos, etc) myself? This is a new venture into pick up and delivery. Thanks in advance!

Hello @surfmaster26 ! Welcome to the Seller Community!

Wow, you're asking a loaded question for your first one. I like it. 🙂

Let's start with the order received question, and I'm going to assume you already have printers in your restaurant. You can also upgrade tech to a KDS display. Most of what I talk about can be converted to KDS as well if you'd like.

Online orders are received and printed however you set up your printer profiles. They will then print according to your online settings--either upon time of order or at the time of prep.

First thing you'll want to do is create a new printer profile for online orders for each printer. Do this from your device that you want to always watch for online orders. More -> Settings -> Hardware -> Printers -> Profiles -> Create New. You will want to create a new profile for each printer that device sees.

In the new profile, set up the Receipts, In-person order tickets, Order ticket stubs, and Void tickets as you have them already set up. Then, go to the Online & kiosk order tickets setting and set the category prints as you need them.

Once you have created the new profiles, you want to point your printer(s) at the new profiles instead of the existing ones. Do this only on one device: leave any other devices on the old printer profiles. This will prevent duplicate online order prints. This is also why you don't want to just update existing profiles: you'll create duplicate prints.

When a customer orders, the online order will then print to the printers you've designated, just like if you took the order in store. When it prints (at time of order or at time of prep) is a setting at Dashboard -> Account & Settings -> Fulfillment -> Pickup & Delivery. Look for the Workflow section on both the Pickup and Delivery settings screens.

The good thing about using Square's online environment is that any adjustments you make to your items will show up online almost instantly. Changing pictures and pricing is as simple as how you do it already.

The biggest thing to watch for, and I'm hoping that your designer is aware of this, is to manage the online fulfillment and visibility for each item. The number one thing that stops Square websites from working right is fulfillment mismatches. Be sure that all your items fulfillment types match what the website is expecting to see. I've seen so many issues where one item has shipping enabled but the website isn't configured for shipping. It causes the whole site to not work.

Some helpful Square Help links:

Set fulfillment types

Setting Printer Profiles

Configuring order ticket printing (talks about enabling online orders)

Troubleshooting duplicate online orders (just in case something goes weird)

Hopefully this gets you started down the online ordering path! Ask more questions as you come across them!
