I just got the new square handheld. After going through all the setup it asks if I want to use and existing settings recommend or a new mode. When I select existing and select the device I want to use it just sets there and has been on the same screen for 2 hours.

Force a Restart
Hold the power button down for about 15–20 seconds until the device shuts off completely.
Wait a few seconds, then power it back on.
Retry setup — sometimes the first attempt hangs due to Wi-Fi timeout or sync error.
Confirm Strong Wi-Fi
Setup requires stable Wi-Fi to sync settings from the cloud.
If you’re on a guest network, public hotspot, or one with firewall settings, it might block Square’s setup process.
Switch to a strong, private network, or try using a mobile hotspot just for setup.
Skip Existing Device Setup
When prompted again, choose “Set up as new device” instead of “Use existing.”
You’ll still be able to apply the same settings manually later (theme, printer, location, etc.).
This usually bypasses the sync freeze.
