is it possible display price to the left of item name

is it possible display price to the left of item name. Our problem arises from the fact our items have unusually long names. This causes issues when are checking prices. 

 

Is there an option to display the price to the left of the item

 

OR customize the screen in other ways?

Hi @WineSneak,

I’ve received word from my team that the fix for the price formatting issues was successfully rolled out in app version 6.75. We’re currently rolling out version 6.76 globally, and the team has reported no further issues with the previous formatting behaviour. After monitoring the issue for some time, we are now calling this fully resolved!

Please let me know if you’re seeing anything different; otherwise, it looks like the new app versions have resolved this issue for us going forward.

Hi @WineSneak!

It’s not currently possible to edit the format of how items appear in your item search within the Square for Restaurants app.

Is the difficulty in finding items most noticeable when searching for them? If so, have you thought about creating a designated menu group for these items? Menu groups can help organize your items more effectively, making them much easier to locate when adding them to an order.

Let me know if you'd like further guidance on setting up menu groups, or if there’s anything else we can assist with!

To clarify my issue; 

 

Our items have very long names to facilitate easy searching on the internet. Shorter named items are not an issue as there is enough space to display the price on the right side. Items with long names display the price as pictured below. This cause confusion and errors in determining the price of the item

Thanks for your patience, @WineSneak — and apologies for missing that formatting issue earlier!

I initially thought you were referring to the price placement beside the item title, but I see now that the formatting of the price itself is the real issue. That’s my mistake! 

This does seem buggy. We recently released a number of fixes in the latest version of the Square Restaurants app (6.68.2), so I’d recommend first checking that you're running that version on your device. If you are and the issue persists, please try deleting and reinstalling the app.

After that, you can confirm your device's software is up to date by navigating to: More > Settings > Hardware > General.

If everything is updated and you're still seeing the formatting issue, just let me know, I’ll escalate this to our Restaurants Team for further investigation.

I just updated the app and I am seeing no change. 

 

And while I have your attention, could you please pass this issue along as well?

 

For some reason one of our locations is adding items directly to the receipt without going to the item details screen. That option is unchecked on all items. This is very annoying as we have to choose the item on the receipt and click modify to change quantities or add discounts, etc.

 

I have submitted this issue and spoken to tech support but have not heard back regarding a fix

Hi again @WineSneak — would you believe we’ve released yet another version of the app? We’re now up to version 6.71!

When you have a moment, could you please check that you're running the latest version and let us know if the formatting issue is still occurring? If there's no change, can you also confirm that the issue is only occurring on your iPad devices?

As for the issue with adding items directly to the receipt (without viewing the item details screen), could you also confirm which location you're seeing this happen at? I’ll take a closer look at the settings on our end to see if anything stands out that might be contributing to the problem.

No change after updating POS.

 

As for the SKIP ITEM DETAIL SCREEN, the problem still exists. Items have SKIP... disabled. 

 

So far the problem is at the following locations:

 

WineSneak

Tastes of the Valleys, Pismo Beach

 

I will test our Paso location later today.

Just a quick update for you — I looked into the issue you flagged around the "Skip item details screen" setting, and it turns out there was a recent change made to the Square for Restaurants checkout flow. This change was intended to align the flow more closely with Square Point of Sale, where the item details screen would be skipped automatically if no required modifiers or variations were present — regardless of your checkout settings.


This change has since been rolled back in app version 6.72, so this should now be resolved for you moving forward.


As for the price formatting issue, apologies for the delay in getting this resolved, I've followed up on that again and will keep you posted as soon as I have more to share.
