Wrapped vs. Unwrapped Inventory Tracking

I have certain items that come in plastic wrap.  I want to offer a second, lower price to those that want us to take the wrapping off.  I know that sounds backwards, but this has to do with the aftermarket value of a wrapped versus unwrapped item and scalpers!

The curveball of this is we need inventory to just track the item.  So really I want two prices for a single item and one inventory trail.  We don't track "wrapping" or care about it, it is an option for a single item at checkout.  I want to be able to define the two prices on a PER ITEM basis too.  Set discounts and modifiers won't quite work.

Any ideas?

Have you tried to use the "bundle" function?   You could create the original item as unwrapped, and then create a bundle as a new item called "item name unwrapped", and use the original item as the only item in the bundle.  This should track inventory correctly, and allow you to set each item to a different price.
