Will the "Square" bar code scanner work with Virtual Terminal?

We have finally added enough products that have legit barcodes that we have stepped up and ordered a barcode scanner from Square.  Now my question is.  Does anyone know if this will work with a Windows based PC running through virtual terminal, or we are going to need to switch back to our "Register" and hope the bar code scanner is enough to make it actually work with increasing number of items?

No is the short answer.

When I scan a barcode that was on an Item it shows as a $ amount.  Meaning if the barcode is 12345678923, in the virtual terminal it shows as $12,345,678,923.00.  When I scan my Barcode that is Fall Harvest 28oz, it shows my Fall Harvest is $28.00.  When I type in Fall Harvest 28oz it shows the correct price of $22.99.

I just tried this again on the virtual terminal and got the above results searching for my known SKU's that work on my Square Stands.

I have over 4500 items currently in my catalog of Items and I do not have any Problems with my scanner finding items when I scan the Item as long as I have a good internet connection.  So you should be fine on the Register with the scanner.  On the virtual terminal I recommend entering the name of the Item Manually, because if you enter numbers the Virtual Terminal is setup to read those as $$ amounts.

Thanks, we will have to try the register again with the scanner to see if it starts working better.  We originally ditched it in favor of the virtual terminal when we hit around 5000 items because it was getting confused and taking far to long searching for SKUs when we were trying to check people out.  It's obvious that the PC has a lot more processing power because it's much faster at finding the SKU items.  Luckily most of the SKU only items end up on invoices which is complete prior to a customer standing in front of us, so hopefully the register works better with the scanner.  Of course we have added a couple thousand items since then so who knows!

I agree that a computer has more processing power, but I believe Squares Catalog of items is stored online/in the cloud and not actually on a Tablet, Register or in the Virtual terminal.  So you need a Solid internet or Cell signal to do item searches etc.  I use the Square Stands on a 30Mb internet with about 10 other devices that have access to the internet and have not had a problem with the scanner finding items.    The only time I have had a Problem was after adding a new item, one stand may not see it and the other does.  So now my SOP for adding new items is after business hrs and then first thing in the morning I log out and Log back in to my Square Stands.  I create new Items in a Spreadsheet then up load it after 6pm.  When I get to the store in the am I do the reboots on each Stand and have not had a problem, except for the screens changing after a Square Update, and then my workers are like where is this screen now, or how do I ....
