Why is Square no longer collecting taxes on my sales?

I was collecting taxes like normal up until this past week when I noticed that three of my sales did not collect taxes.  I asked one of them if their state does not collect sales tax and she said they did.  What may have changed and how can I fix it so that I'm collecting sales tax again?  I don't want to get in trouble by not collecting sales tax!

Have you checked your Items and item settings to make sure there's a tax set up and that they're applied to each item?

how do I do that? I know that I did not click the box that makes the items tax exempt.
