We refunded cash to a customer against an original card purchase but are unable to process the cash refund in Square and cancel the sale item...

How can we proceed?

It's bad practice (probably against the T&C's too) to refund via cash for a card sale - just for the future 👍🏻

There isn't really a way to fix this that will get you all straight, but if you wanted to refund the original transaction to a gift card you could then clear the card. That would get your stock back but you're still down the cash that you gave out.
