Uncategorized items

I have read all the threads regarding uncategorized items; however, my issue that my square account is also tied to my GoDaddy website using all the correct item descriptions and categories as described in your help.  Using this website, I can import my items from Square into my GoDaddy website for sale.  By doing this, my pricing and inventory count automatically updates when an item is sold either from Square or from the website.  Everything seems to be working great.  But this uncategorized issue occurs when the item is sold on the website, it is then reduced from my Square inventory and payment is even processed through Square.  The only issue I have is that this sale in my Square reporting comes up as 'Uncategorized' instead of placing the items within it's correct category.  Everything is set up correctly with the correct item description, category and everything works perfectly, as Square knows what was sold since it reduces the correct inventory items, from the correct category and charges cost correctly.  With all this being said, why does reporting show 'Uncategorized' items for only those items sold on the website??????  Please help!

Thank you,

Sabine

What basically is happeing is Godady sends the Total amout to be processed via Credit Card and is NOT sending each individual item for Square to toatal up to be processed.  When you look at your Square reports, since inventory is being reduced, what is showed for why it was reduced?  The sales at GoDaddy are a separate Sales Channel and would need to be reported seperately.  Meaning your business has income from Online (GoDaddy), In person through Square, Maybe Wholesale.... etc.  You would need to show all these different sales income and expenses.  So GoDaddy should have a way to export the sales and Items you sold there.

So when an online store just sends the Total to Square it shows as Uncategorized Sale.   I had this happen when I had an all in one cash register, then would enter the Total to Square as the amount to charge for the purchase.  Square would show Uncategorized there and at my Online site that was integrated with Square.  In my online stores backoffice it just showed Square Transaction for total amount and a break down of the items Shipping and sales tax if required.

If it’s reducing the item inventory in square correctly, by item and by category, then why aren’t the square reports picking up these sales and reductions correctly. It can do one, but not the other?  Makes no sense!

It does make Sense, because if Godaddy would report it to Square and Square reduced the Inventory And Counted it as a Sale.  Your income for Online Sales or Squares, one would show double the income.

For example if you sell Item on Godaddy, and Square reported it as a Sale.... then it would show as a sale in Godaddy and in Square.... now you have 2 times the income to report.

The way it is now, Godaddy is showing Inventory of X and So is Square.   Godaddy makes the Sale, Reports the sale as Income, and just reduces the Inventory from Square.

The other alternative is for Square to have the sale of each Item along with Godaddy then Not only would you have 2 Times the income but then Godaddy just reduced your inventory and then when The sale shows up as Itemized by Godaddy to Square, Square would then AGAIN reduce your inventory.  Now your Inventory is also being reduced by 2 times.

You need to look at since you have 2 different businesses..... one with Square and One with Godaddy that are sharing the inventory pool but not Financials.

Square keeps track of your sales made through Square not what was also sold at Godaddy.  So the way it is, if you get audited.  The accountantant can say all these unclassified sales are from Godaddy.  Pull up the Godaddy reports and these numbers should match.  From an owners stand point this should be easy, but from an accounting point everything must match and be accounted for 1 time.

I’m sorry I wasn’t clear. ALL my sales transactions go through square. If someone purchases something from my website, the transaction is processed through square. I have no financials set up with godaddy, only the products are shown there. Financials ALL go through square. No double accounting financially.

You use Square at Godaddy for your Credit card processor but GoDaddy is your Sales Channel, which tracks the Reporting.  So you were clear I may not have been.  The revenue from the Sale is accounted for in Godaddy.  This is where you see which Item was Sold, How Much Sales tax if any would be collected, who the Customer is etc.  Then Godaddy sends the Total to Square, as Uncataegorized, then Square sends the information to the CC issuer to see if there is funds available and if the Card is Approved.  So what would happen with you if you sell your business, You would show Items sold at GoDaddy of none.... but a bunch of revenue, if Square shows which Items are sold but not where they were sold.... One or the Other can show the sale, not both.  That would be the Double accounting.

So for me, I have Square as my in house CC processor and a site out of Square like you with Godaddy.  In my Accounting software.  I have Square (Retail Sales) and my other 'Customer' is Godaddy Sales for example.  So I import all my Items and transaction data from Square, then I import the same Data from my online store so I can show My online and Retail Location differences.  The way you would want to do it would not do this UNLESS you used Square and a Square online store.  You chose Godaddy for online and Square as a CC processor.  So now you need to show when A sale is made at Godaddy, the Money goes to Square (uncategorized) then to you less Squares Fees.   Because now Square has to show the Sale that Godaddy asked for, Then Godaddy has to show the sale on your website. Uncle Same wants to watch every penny move from Business to business or person to business or person to person.

You can not show you Sold 5 of Item A at Godaddy, and at the same time show that you Sold 5 through your your Credit Card processor.... you either sold those items through Square OR through Godaddy but not both.  So only 1 of them can list it on a transaction and give a receipt for the items..

1 Receipt per Transaction :

They get a Godaddy Receipt

Transacation at Square lists no Items since it only approved the Godaddy Receipt.

If it had Items you could Print that Transaction from Square as a Receipt.

If I i use a CC when I make a Purchase through a Square Seller, I get a Digital Receipt, and I print one from your Site showing Godaddy.  Now I have 2 receipts that are different for the same items.  I could show my accountant I made this purcahse from you in person (Digital Receipt) and then give the accountant the Godaddy (Printed Hardcopy) one also.  They would both show the Items on it and I would have both receipts to prove financially I bought double the items 2 different ways from You.  Yes, it would be a Lie but how would an accountant prove I did not purchase double the items?   How would YOU prove you only made the 1 sale, remember now I have 2 receipts YOU gave me when I purchased them at 2 different locations (Square and Godaddy).

1 Receipt Godaddy   and  1 Receipt from Square   =  Double Accounting   Looks like two completely different Sales but actually only one sale and 2 receipts.
