Transitioning to real time shipping calculations

I'm working on inputting the weight for all my items so that I can transition to real time shipping calculations.  If I have an item that is 0.31 fl oz, how do I input that into square.  It looks like the only option is pounds.  Thanks.

I would assume you need the weight of the item as it is being mailed- so even though the item itself is in fluid ounces the shipping weight would be different. I also assume you need to weigh the item wrapped.

I put a polymailer and bubble wrap with the item for weight.  Thanks so much for your response.
