Square for Restaurants and Barcode Creation

I run a coffee cafe with items in a grab-n-go cooler.   These items really need a barcode to keep up with inventory and quick service.   Being able to create those within square would be a HUGE benefit.   $89 monthly just to print barcodes for quick-service items seems a bit much for such a basic tool.   In today's economy, everything has a simple barcode.   I keep track of my vendors and costs elsewhere as Square for Restuarants really lacks in that department.  

Barcode creation availability for restaurants is a requested feature.   I'll pay a little more for the add-on, but I do not need the full Square for Retail package.

I am having the opposite problem, I am being told I need to add restaurants to continue to use Uber & Doordash but also that my current utilization of Square options makes my account unable to add restaurants.

Square needs to design 1 system with multiple tiers, not multiple tiers of multiple systems!

I get it @DailyGrindNash - but you don't 'need' the retail stuff. 

Google for a simple barcode creator and print your own labels (you then get a much better option for label sizes too). I've added these barcoded into the branding/name stickers too. 

If it's only your own set up you can make whatever codes you want, I normally use just words. Then add these to your items in the Square system and job done. On the POS I think if you can a code that's not in your library then you can directly add it to the item from there.

Oh, I'm already using a 3rd party for barcode creation - however it is a pain.   And plus, it would be beneficial for staff to be able to easily print barcodes to go on items that are placed in the cooler as they are made.   
It's just a responsibility to pass on to the staff, and one less thing on my plate.  
It's a feature already available on Square for Retail - already built into the system (as it's very evident by "vendor" and "costs") - it just needs to an option.   
Restaurants everywhere are becoming more versitle carrying merch, local goods, and handcrafted items - all of which need barcodes to increase speed of service.   This doesn't need the entire Square for Retail program - only the barcode feature.   
We have other accounting software to handle the COGS stuff.
