Shipping Help

Hi, I have 2 shipping options set for 3 different country groups (domestic to Canada, USA, and International). I've got one called "All Prints Are 8x8" or Under" and one called "I Have 11x14" Print(s) In My Order." There's quite a large price difference between these two options (around $20 difference) so it's very important that the right one is selected. However, when you go to check out as a customer, the default is the cheaper 8x8 and under shipping and you can manually change it to the 11x14 shipping but you can very much just miss that section entirely or intentionally select the cheaper shipping.

I've also tried doing it as individual item pricing but when I saved the rates for domestic shipping, I realized all those items were locked into that one shipping rate and I couldn't add other destinations for a different price. Shipping internationally costs at least twice as much as domestic so I don't want to have to charge everyone international pricing with the item level shipping rates.

Would really appreciate help on this as I can't seem to find a solution and it's delaying me announcing the launch of my site.

Thanks!

Hello @mcarney and thank you for your post in the Square Community 👋

I reached out to the Square Online Support Team on this one and they've provided a few suggestions:

You could make up an "item specific" flat rate shipping rate, but this would apply to all items on the list. You can choose the international flat rate, but you would have to charge everyone the same flat rate for the specific items listed. The normal way the system would work is to show all rates that apply to the items/orders at checkout which would, unfortunately, allow customers to "choose" the lower rate if they like or if they miss the distinction.

The only other option would be for you to upgrade your Square Online service plan, and then setup Real-Time Shipping rates, which would come from the Shipping carriers themselves, but would allow for more accurate shipping rates based on size, weight and number of products. This is the more expensive option, but would provide more specific rates.

I hope this answers your question, but please let me know if I could help with anything else!

Hi @_Violet, it seems ridiculous to need to upgrade to fix this issue since it's not a matter of needing real time shipping rates, it's just a need for the website to function properly. I'm unfortunately very quickly becoming disappointed in Square.
