Selling items by the peice

Hello, I run a small Retail Fish Market. We use a deli scale for stickers for our weighed items and square works fine selling by weight and reading the barcode that is generated in the scale.

However I have some items that are a set price and I would like to sell by the Piece in square.

I sell my scale to sell it by pc and it generates a barcode like for weight that Square should be able to pick up and put the price to charge at the register but instead it prompts to set the quantity of pieces. 

Can square be set to read by the piece barcode like the way it reads the barcode for by weight items

My first reaction is, of course it would ask for the quantity, that would be important wouldn't it?  🙂

This might also be addressed by the way you set up the product itself.  Is the 'by the piece' product a separate item in your product list or is it a variation of the weighed items?
