Search is not wildcard by default?

Hello,

When searching an item (or article) on the web interface or within the app on an iPad with Square stand, the software won't return result unless there is an exact match! This makes it really hard to find things.

For exemple, I have an item named:

"8 vitesses - KMC - Z8.1 (compatible 6-7-8 vitesses) - Babac 46605"

If I search 8.1, software return NOTHING.

I I search Z8.1, I get a result.

This should not happend like this. Make it "wildcard" by default!

Ipad Square 6.92.2so

OS iOS 18.6.2

Please advise.

Claude

Hey @LaCyclerie — thanks for flagging this!

I was able to reproduce the issue on my end and can see how inconvenient that would be. I’m going to dig into this further and will follow up with what I find.

I was able to get a bit more insight on this. If “8 vit” appears within other item names or descriptions, it would be expected for those items to show up in search results as well.

Are you noticing results that don’t partially match the search term at all? Also, has search behaved differently in the past? If so, it would be really helpful to know roughly when you first noticed the change.

Thanks for looking into this.

Typing "8.1" returns nothing, as mentioned:

Typing "8." returns a lot of items, including the Z8.1 we are looking for in the initial example:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1BH5dS-fZnO66BADXcklbBv7uG-ZbuskN/view?usp=drive_link

Typing "8 vit" also returns a lot of results, including items that don’t have an "8" in the name (which is fine, since "8" may be in the SKU, GTIN, or description, but I’m not sure which field the system is using to return the results):
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1okQW1qt-L8nFLfxBUG8Fu9E15lVVDSZJ/view?usp=drive_link

It also returns items that include the word "vitesse", or numbers in the hundreds that contain an "8" somewhere in the description:

Item details screen:

It’s hard to tell when the “wildcard” behavior changed. Maybe I just noticed it recently, but I do recall search being easier in the past.
