Retail or Restaurant???

We initially setup our store as a Retail store and have used the Retail App since inception. We have a very large inventory for Retail purchase. We are a Cheese, Wine, and gourmet food store that also does table service for Charcuterie, wine by the glass, mimosas, wine flights, and such. When designing and building the menu each week, we utilize products on our shelves. At the end of the week, we inventory those products to see how much we used, then zero them out of inventory since we charged for the boards. This is reeking havoc on my inventory control, as well as my accounting. Would we benefit from restaurant? We do not have servers; however, we do make Charcuterie to order and have a kitchen. We currently have 17 first come first serve tables in three different areas. When we are busy, table management is a pain. I would like something that accounts for my product use on each Charcuterie so that I can show actual CoGS at the end of the week, without doing a bunch of extra manual work in excel.

@ProvisionsCWS I ran into a very similar issue - charging for something but then having to run inventory because that item was considered an operational supply (something you NEED to perform a sale but you don't DIRECTLY charge for).

In this scenario, I would recommend setting up a Discount for 100% off called "EOW Charcuterie Board Build". For all items that you used to create these boards, you will not need to recount inventory, you'll just need to charge or expense out the items you used for the boards at 100%.

EX

cheese $6

crackers $4

jam $9

---------

DISCOUNT at 100% for $0.00

You could do this at the end of the day, after every transaction or the end of the week.

This way, items as COGS are counted and expensed which will really help for inventory management and knowing how much to order the same time next year.

Hope this helps!!
