When I look at my projected profit report, I see a significant number of items that show a "Total Inventory Value" of $0.00. Because these items show a "Total Retail Value", the report shows a projected margin of 100%, which is clearly incorrect.
Below is an example to visualize what I am seeing:
| Name | GTIN | SKU | Quantity | Unit | Total Inv. Value | Total Retail Value | Profit | Profit Margin |
| Chocolate Macroon | 12345 | 54321 | 5 | $0.00 | $11.50 | $11.50 | 100.0% | |
| Spaghetti | 23456 | 65432 | 18 | $0.01 | $61.20 | $61.19 | 99.9% |
While I understand the information presented, it is wholly incorrect. All of my items have a cost entered in the system, and I have never received these items with a $0.00 or $0.01 value.
Reporting these calculations of 100% profit not only throws this whole report off and makes it meaningless, but, assuming that these figures are used elsewhere (and came from somewhere), I can only suspect that other financial reports are also incorrect.
Can someone explain why/how this is happening, and perhaps put my mind to rest by giving me an easy explanation how I am misinterpreting this?
Hi @lennys26, thank you for your inquiry! I definitely understand your concern with this.
I am going to tag in a few of our knowledgeable Square Champions who may know some additional details on this. @TheRealChipA, @Candlestore, @ryanwanner, do you all by chance have any insight on this Seller's inquiry?
If for some reason our Champions don't have any additional insight on this, I can get this escalated over to our corresponding teams to get this figured out for you.
@lennys26 @Sammie_C The only plausible reason I can come up with for this -- excluding errors in receiving stock, which @lennys26 has already ruled out -- is timing. When did you start using Square inventory tracking? Is it possible that there were items out there when you were setting it up that had the wrong costs? Or maybe items that were just plain missed?
Otherwise, I agree here. If most of your items are working as expected and you can rule out receiving/setup errors, this is a job for the product team. I'm stumped.
Hi @TheRealChipA (And @Sammie_C).
This has been an issue for me for as far back as I can remember (~2years with Square). I have, for most items, always used Square inventory tracking and what I can see is that this issue is appearing for newer items, as well as older ones. That is to say the issue affects items that have been in inventory for a long time as well as other newer items.
Question -- Could these be related to an "Inventory Re-count" action? (where stock is "added" without a cost?)
