The title of this thread has been edited from the original: print labels for drinks
I am looking to print labels, sticky ones, for drink items that i have to make. how would i go about doing that?
i have different items served at my locations. and one of them is a drink item we have to make per order. what i would like to do is have ONLY that item print on a sticky paper and i have the customers name printed on that paper also, so when the drink is ready we just call out their name and be done.
i dont want their entire order to be printed on the note. so if they ordered other items that dont require the note, then the note wont print. i only want the note to print for the drinks that i set that require a name. is that a option?
This is definitely possible with Square @SmallBiz1! I'd be happy to walk you through the setup process.
Step 1: Get A Compatible Label Printer
Square works with:
- STAR TSP143 IV Sticky Label Printer (USB or Ethernet)
- Star Micronics TSP654IISK or TSP654SK (USB or Ethernet)
You'll also need heat-resistant thermal labels that can stick to your drink containers.
Step 2: Create a Printer Profile for Drink Labels
1. In your Square Point of Sale app, tap ≡ More > Settings > Hardware > Printers > Connect printer
2. If you have multiple devices/locations, tap Profiles > Create profile
3. Tap Printer and select your label printer
4. Toggle on In-person order tickets (and Online and kiosk order tickets if applicable)
5. Toggle on Single item per ticket (this ensures each drink gets its own label). Note: You can select Compact Ticket to save paper
6. Under Categories to print, choose the categories you’d like to print (i.e., drinks only)
7. Configure any additional settings, then tap Save
8. Tap Assign printer
9. Connect your sticky label printer
Step 3: Set Up Customer Name Entry
To include customer names on the labels, you'll need to update your Checkout settings:
1. In your Square Point of Sale app, tap ≡ More > Settings > Checkout > Order Tickets
2. Choose Enter custom number or name
With this setup, when an order is placed that includes items from your drink categories:
- Square will automatically print individual sticky labels for each drink item
- The customer's name will included on the label
- Other items in the order (that aren't in your selected drink categories) won't print to this label printer

Do i need any special subscription for this to work or is it good to go with what i would currently have?
Nope, @SmallBiz1! This type of functionality is included with all Square plans. You should be good to go!
ok cool. so with the instructions above i will setup a printer, a printer profile, add items to that profile. once that is done i am back on square pos. i ring up a customer order. say they order 2 custom drinks and a burger. i will get a popup to add name, i enter thier name, the printer will print the custom drinks only on the paper. will it print 2 printout since they ordered 2 drinks?
different scenario: customer orders 1 burger, no custom drink. the burger is not setup in the printer profile. will the pop up happen for me to enter a number or name or will it auto populate that and process the transactions like it regularaly does?
Yes, that's right @SmallBiz1. 😊
If a customer orders two drinks and a burger, the printer will print two separate labels (one for each drink) since you'd have Single item per ticket enabled.
If a customer orders just a burger (no drinks), no label will print since it's not included in your drink label printer profile. However, you'll still be prompted to enter a custom number or name during checkout, as this setting applies to your entire order flow, not just to items assigned to specific printer profiles.
