Modifiers to different KDS stations

How good would it be to be able to route different modifiers to our different KDS stations. for example: A burger combo (normally comes with a can) can be upgraded to get a milkshake and I have created a modifier for the upgraded drinks, however as the burger is in the food category it only gets sent to the the food prep screens and not the drink station. 

I have needed to created a standalone combo drink upgrade button on the home screen to enable it to send the the correct KDS, however this takes more time when taking a customer order and will not work when our online ordering goes live.

Would love some feedback on how others have worked around this.

From what you've described, this is currently a feature request and I'll continue to flag this feedback with our Product Team. I know we've recently introduced Item Bundles with Square for Retail and there has been high demand from our Square Restaurants community for a similar feature across the board. 

The challenge in your scenario lies in the online element. My initial suggestion would have been to create the drinks as individual items and then apply a bundle discount during the sale to ensure proper routing to the designated station. However, this doesn't fully address the online ordering aspect. This would be a great question for one of our Square for Restaurants specialists! I recommend reaching out to them today to explore the potential solutions they can provide in the interim.

Hi there, any update or better workaround on this? Real problem for up sell items such as drinks when sold as a modifier.

Nope.....I needed to create all new online items with their own modifiers but alas still need to shout at the other stations for the different drink modifiers/upgrades.

Thanks, hope there's a solution soon. Same here having to shout to another stations but it's a pain in busy times. I think it'll help if Square allowed items to be listed/selected as modifier options. It should then flow to the right station based on the item category. Doing so will also help with stock tracking. At the moment modifier options are simply plain text.

I just wanted to follow up on this thread and let you know that you can route items to a specific KDS based on item category or dining option by following the steps listed here, but this isn't possible for item modifiers. That would be a feature request. Although this feature isn’t currently available with Square, it’s a great idea and I can see how it would be beneficial to your business.
