Min / Max for Ordering

In items, is there a way to add a "max" and in MIN quantities and MAX quantities? Most POS systems for retail have an option for MIN/MAX to make ordering simple and allow for report printing by distributor and then emailing in the order. I've had a few POS systems over the years and this is the first I've encountered that didn't have something as basic as MIN/MAX. If this is available and I'm missing it, please someone let me know what I need to do to add a MAX in an item inventory.

Hi @julzanimalhouz, I'm sorry but there isn't a way to set MIN/MAX inventory levels with Square for Retail.

I want to make sure I'm understanding your question though. Do you mean MIN/MAX for online orders that are placed?

Let me know.

Retailers that doing any substantial amount of business typically need a POS system that allows for MIN/MAX so that a report can be generated and sent to a distributor for ordering product. Without the MAX we have to manually order every single one of our SKU's by hand. MIN/MAX is a very basic requirement and should be available in any POS system.

Hey again @julzanimalhouz

Just so I understand this in completion, you would like an automated system that sends the distributor a Purchase Order whenever a certain item in your inventory hits a minimum?

I've seen this before with other Retail POS systems, but before I contact our Product Team regarding the status of this feature, I want to make sure I understand it fully. Let me know!

No. I need a “MAX” to be added so that when I pull a report I know without going on the sales floor how many I need to order; likewise, when I send the report to the distributor, they too know how many I need to order. I do not want Square sending the report, that is something I will do. For instance, “ABC Dog Brand” needs to have a MIN of two and a MAX of five. If MAX was available in Square I could pull an inventory report and it would see that we had three available and need to order two more. That report would be pulled by “vendor” and I would send to the vendor to fill the order. Currently it just notifies me when we’ve gone under MIN but unless I’ve memorized ten thousands SKUS there is no way for me to know how many to order when I’m given the MIN notification.

Hey @julzanimalhouz

Got it. Thank you. That makes sense. I can see how useful that would be.

Thank you for providing your insight, and a thorough example. I will pass this along to our Square for Retail team, and post in this thread if I have an update on this feature. I know we're working to make more customizable reports, with vendor reporting being the main focus as we do not have that right now.

Thanks again.

Would love to know if any progress has been made in making this feature available. It's been about 5 years since this thread was posted and this feature is key to ordering efficiently as the user stated. Thanks!
