Meta Commerce Changes and New checkout requirement

Now on Meta Commerce, it is saying that checkout will no longer happen on the meta side, but it will redirect to my checkout url.  The problem is that my square items are set up with shipping or pickup in the individual item screen not on the checkout screen.  So, if I link the url to my checkout screen, nothing shows up.

Does anyone have experience with updating this.  It looks like we have 2 weeks to figure it out for square.

Hi, @TheShopbyBSA ! Welcome to the Square Community!

This change with meta has been pretty frustrating for some Square sellers. I will provide instructions below for what you need to do in order to continue with Meta Commerce. 😁

Instead of linking to your general checkout screen, you need to link each product in Meta to its exact Square item page, where customers can choose pickup/shipping and add it to their cart.

  • Go to your Square Online dashboard

  • Navigate to Items > Site Items

  • Click on an item and view it on your live site

  • Copy the URL of that individual item page

Use that product-specific URL as the “checkout” or “Buy Now” link in your Meta Commerce Manager.

Example: https://yourstorename.square.site/product/your-product-name/12345678

Make Sure the Item Page Supports Pickup/Shipping

Since the checkout options depend on what’s enabled per item, make sure:

  • The item has shipping or pickup enabled in its settings

  • Any variations (size, color, etc.) are also properly configured

Let me know if you have any questions about doing this. I hope this helps!

Hey Summer2024,

I've been poking around and trying to setup my website the same way as in this thread but I have not found a solution. The Commerce Manager demands for a specific checkout URL that must be able to take in the product IDs and coupons that are in Facebook. When I enter an item's specific buy link into the URL, I am limited to only that one item. The Commerce Manager's site prompts to test with at least 2 different items from your shop to see if the checkout indeed added the custom IDs for the items, their quantities, and coupons (if any). So when I entered that one specific link checkout for the one item, and tested it with my other items, it redirected me to only the one specific checkout link. Unless I am doing something wrong I'd like to get your opinion on this to see how this can be resolved.

Thank you kindly,

Gibran Ventura

I wish we could get our products on Meta- it's really disturbing.

Unfortunately this solution did not pass through their Checkout URL validator for me. And they only let you "check" a couple of URLs. What option is Square coming up with for companies that have hundreds of items impacted by this Meta change? Is there a timeline for a Square integration fix to meet the new Meta requirements? (and I've been through support - passed through 6 people to only be told that I need to go back to Meta and if Meta says it's Square to come back with why Meta thinks it is....I disagree as Square is site sending data across and the data isn't getting processed properly based on the new requirements...otherwise the integration would work)

Square doesn't care. I'm in the same boat, wasted hours on the phone too—nothing. It's like talking to a wall.

This is my last straw with using Square, it's literally costing all of us money. Shopify users don't have to deal with any of this, whenever you want to upload your products on another selling platform like Tiktok shop or Faire, there's always a link to connect your shop directly when you have a Shopify store. With us we have to upload each product individually because we never get to link directly. I spent hours setting up my Instagram shop and then to get to the last step and not be able to create a checkout page is so frustrating. I'm switching away from Square asap, I'm done.
