Any help is appreciated at [email protected].
@sobrien What kind of food items? and how do you use your modifiers currently (an example usually helps me see what would work for you)?
@Donnie-M Thanks Donnie in advance.
Options:
Mustard
Mayo
Ketchup
Onions
Relish
Any of these a customer may want "on the side" or in other words in a separate container or not on the sandwich

What I will typically add is another modifier that says (Toppings on the Side) and generally just do an all or nothing approach. I find this especially useful in my restaurants as it reduces any chance of someone wanting pickles on the side but maybe not on the sandwich. With wet condiments, I think this is always the safer bet.
The one time I will deviate is if a burger or something has a special sauce, especially a spicy one. Then I would have it something like (Chipotle Sauce on the Side) or +Extra Chipotle on the side. Whatever you need. But never be afraid to add instructions as modifiers for customers to click. It really does help you and reduces time cashiers spend typing in comments.
