I just bought the Square POS terminal for my furniture store, and I want to print receipts

I just bought the Square POS register at Sam's Club and I like the ability to email receipts, but I also would like to be able to print a professional looking receipt for my customer. I assumed that I would be able to use my HP printer for this purpose. Imagine my shock to learn the Square does not allow you to print receipts from a standard printer. This is a huge issue for me (meaning I will have to choose another POS system).

Is there a workaround? I tried to email myself the receipt and print it, but it looks very unprofessional. I don't want to sell someone a $3,000 bedroom suite and have to give them a receipt that looks like they bought something from the dollar store.

My only option at this point is to manually create a professional looking receipt in Word, which is time consuming and irritating.

Hello @bestinshowroom !

Congratulations and welcome to the Square Community!!!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but yes, there are only a certain number of compatible printer devices, and they can be found here - https://squareup.com/us/en/compatibility/accessories/printers

I wish I had better news for you but it is what it is.  I'm willing to bet that your printer is not on there.

With that being said, my previous POS system used the Epson TM88-IV and TM88-V.    Recently Square was able to make the TM88-V work, but not the IV.   This means I have about 6 or 7 printers just lying around that I'll never use.   The good news is that you can configure your system to print EVERY terminal to one printer, but that still doesn't help you with your old printer.

Sorry to have you start this way, but I think you will be happy with Square long term.

Let us know if more questions.

Thank you. I Google'd that Epson brand, and that kind of receipt will not work.

How does Square power 4 million businesses without the option to create a professional looking receipt? You'ld think that would have been one of the basics for a POS system. I thought if I emailed the receipt, there would be an attached PDF or something, but no. It's really shocking.

I guess I'll just manually create a full page receipt from an excel or word document for now.

Anyway, thank you for your response.

Square POS is only going to give you a receipt on a receipt printer.  That is what Square does, it doesn't use inkjet or laser printers.  I can't recall seeing people ask for different receipts from Square than what it does now.

Now you can use Square invoices and that can print on a 8.5x11 sheet of paper on a standard printer.  It isn't anything fancy, but it isn't a thermal paper receipt if that is what you are looking for.

@bestinshowroom ;

The other alternative besides using Invoicing to print to a Regular printer would be using Square Virtual terminal.  Issue with that is it prints a Thermal style receipt on a regular 8x10 sheet of paper.  See image below:

Now what you could do which is what I was doing for my wholesalers is.

Create and Invoice Template in your accounting software, add the items in that.  use Square to process the full amount.  Type paid by invoice # Pdf3 for example from the Square receipt and print that out to your customer.  Since I double entered my inventory in my accounting software, it was easy to add my items there too for a receipt for when m customers picked up there items.  Now regular small order customers got the thermal receipts or digital ones.  Just giving you this option before you create your own Receipt when your accounting software might have one for you.
