How to add a Sell By Unit to a single variation of an existing Item

I have an existing Item in my Catalog ... Coke Classic.  The item is set up as follows.

Item Name : Coke Classic

Variations:

  • 2L
  • 20oz Btl
  • 12pk 12oz Can
  • 12oz Can

In the past we ordered 12pks to sell as 12pks and 35 loose can flats to sell as single 12oz cans.  We are no longer ordering the 35 loose can flats and instead are breaking 12pks to sell as singles.  I want to add a sell by unit to the 12pk 12oz Can variation that is "single can" were 12 of the unit = 1 of the variation.  I cannot for the life of me figure out how to set it up.  I can add a unit to the Item, but that adds the new unit to all of the Variations.  I only want to the sell by unit to be added to the 12pk 12oz Can Variation.  HELP PLEASE ... lol

Hi there, @MAH12,

Thanks for explaining your setup, this is a really common workflow challenge, so you’re definitely not alone! And you’re right: Square currently applies Units at the item level, which means any unit you add shows up across all variations, not just one. That’s why you’re not seeing an option to apply a “single can” unit only to the 12pk 12oz Can variation.
