How to Set Up Fixed-Price Meal Bundles for Happy Hour

I have a happy hour that runs in our restaurant from 5-6pm every day

the happy hour consists of a smaller menu where guests can choose to have 1 course for £12, 2 course for £16 or 3 for £21.

has anyone setup something like this before where you can still select menu choices that go through to kitchen KDS but discount the prices automatically?

ATM we are doing it manually with items having zero cost associated to them and the server having to work out how many courses each person has had then selecting one of 3 items we have for course 1,2,3

thanks

Hi @CasaItalian!

I noticed no one else has chimed in on this thread yet, so I thought I'd drop by with some options for you to try!

While Square doesn't have a built in course-based bundle discount, there are a few ways to set up a happy hour like this more efficiently, and still have orders go through the KDS.

Option 1: Use Modifiers and Set Prices at Bundle Level

1. Create 3 items:

1-Course Happy Hour (£12)

2-Course Happy Hour (£16)

3-Course Happy Hour (£21)

2. For each item, add modifiers to let staff select: Starter, main, and/or dessert (based on course count). You can set modifiers up as required/optional depending on course.

3. Modifiers print to the KDS just like regular items (as long as they're flagged to do so).

This way, pricing is fixed, KDS sees the individual dishes, and the server only selects one "bundle" item per guest.

The pros are that this is a simple setup with fixed pricing and KDS integration. The cons would be that there is less flexibility if modifiers need complex rules (like limiting item selection).

Option 2: Use Discounts or Auto Discounts

If you want to keep each dish as a separate item:

1. Create a category for Happy Hour items.

2. Set up an automatic discount (e.g. “Happy Hour Bundle”) that applies a fixed amount off when certain items are ordered together (Square can apply discounts by time/day automatically).

3. Staff would still need to select all individual items and apply the correct discount if not automated fully.

The pros for Option 2 is that you'd have more granular item tracking. The cons would be that there are still some manual steps required to apply the discounts.

It’s up to you whether you want to trial both options before making any changes, just to see which setup best fits your use case. If you have any other questions about how these options work, feel free to reach out!
