How to Delete "Regular" Variation in New Product Setup

In new version of Square, when setting up products, the variation Name defaults to Regular. I used to have to go in and remove the variation manually.  Now I can't figure out how to do this.  It shows on my purchase orders and price tags.

Hi @JALS.. That new item creation flow seems to have a small bug.  For now, create the item as you normally would and save it.  Then, edit it and scroll down to the "Variations" section.  Click "Edit variation details."  That popup will allow you to do what you need to do.  I'll report that bug to the product team.

@JALS Add another variation and you should be able to see the regular to delete it.

Regular was always an issue for us with the old flow as well.
To this day we occasionally find products in our library with variations “regular, red, white, blue”.
User error, perhaps. But if it happens to most my team and other sellers, perhaps the flow could be improved.

I spoke with Square customer support (Autumn).  There is an issue with the work flow.  There is no Edit Variation button in the new work flow.  I also emailed Square customer support (Lea).

Sorry about the wait! What you can do is select the item with the variation. Then, scroll down to Variations. Next, click "edit variations details." You can then delete the word Regular and select Done, and then click Save.

This will remove Regular as the variation name.

In response to Lea's advice:

That is incorrect.  All new items default to the regular variation.  The only option is to Add a variation as there is no Edit button available.  You cannot Delete the word Regular as it does not show as a Variation.  The only thing you can do is Add a different Variation and save and then delete that variation which also deletes Regular because it was changed with the addition of a new variation.  I have requested that this highly inconvenient work around be escalated to the Square engineers.  I had asked for years for the Regular variation that all new items defaulted to be left blank so we could add a variation name if we chose to.  Instead with this new version, you can't see the word Regular but it adds it to the new item creation by default and then you are left with the workaround.  This is so infuriating.  When Square changes things, they should make sure it works to its customers advantage.
