How do I add changes to KDS after order is placed

Hi, I am wondering if there is a way to add a note to the order on KDS after it has been placed.

We currently use KDS at the pass only, to send pizzas out, but use dockets at the prep end as staff will often need to come in and add a note like buzzer number change, no cheese, allergy etc that was missed when order was placed.

I would love to use KDS in the prep area also but would need this flexibility. Is it possible?? I can only see an option to prioritise and order but not add a note.

Thanks

Hi @Whalebone👋

Great question!

At the moment, Square for Restaurants does not support adding or editing notes to an order once it's been sent to the KDS. Once the ticket is fired to the KDS, it becomes a finalised order, and there’s currently no option to add more information or notes through the system.

Here's what's currently possible:

1. You can prioritise an order in KDS, which helps flag urgency but doesn't let you add extra details.

2. You can recall and complete an order in KDS (in certain setups), but editing isn’t supported.

3. For common needs like "No cheese" or "Allergy: Nuts," using conversational modifiers during order entry is the best workaround. These will print on tickets and show up on KDS.

I hope that helps answer your question! Let us know if you need support with anything else in your setup.

Is there a way to request this?  It is a common problem for my business too.  We are a cafe and take payment at the time of taking the order.  Quite often the customer chooses to move tables or change their order from dine in to take away etc.  It would be great if we could change an order note once payment has been accepted and it flow through to the kds screen, or change it on the kds screens themselves

I came onto the community to request this also! We often have last minute requests from customers wanting to add a sugar or change their milk option to their coffee order and we'd like to be able to manually add a note one the KDS ticket.
