How Can I Trigger Buzzer on Every Order Print (Not Just Receipts)?

Hello Square Community,

I'm reaching out for help with a specific setup in my restaurant where I'm using:

iPad with Square POS
Star Micronics MCP30 – for printing kitchen/order tickets
Epson printer with cash drawer port
MC Sound MCS10 buzzer connected to the MCP30 cash drawer/buzzer port
🔧 The Goal:
I want the buzzer to beep every time an order prints , whether it's a kitchen ticket or payment receipt .

What Works:
The buzzer works perfectly when receipts print (i.e., when payments are accepted and Square triggers the cash drawer command).
The buzzer is triggered via the Epson printer’s ESC p command .
The Problem:
Square only sends the ESC p command (which triggers the buzzer) when receipts print , not when order/kitchen tickets print .
There seems to be no option in Square to enable cash drawer open for ticket prints .
I’ve tried creating a dummy $0 item , but since I can't assign a printer to it directly (the "Printing Options" section doesn’t appear in my Square Dashboard), it doesn't reliably trigger the buzzer.
💡 What I’m Looking For:
A way to make Square send the ESC p command every time any order prints , not just receipts.
Has anyone successfully set up a buzzer to trigger on every print job , including kitchen orders ?

Hi @Kiyan111!

Thanks for sharing all those details — I’m hoping some other Sellers here might be able to chime in with their own experience or setup recommendations.

Since Square doesn’t sell or officially support kitchen printer buzzers, we’re a bit limited in the support we can provide directly. That said, this doesn’t sound like a compatibility issue, but more likely a feature limitation within how Square currently handles print jobs for order tickets versus receipts.

I also checked in with our Sales Team, and they mentioned another Seller who had a similar setup using an Epson printer with a buzzer. In their case, they reached out to Epson Support directly, who helped them adjust the printer’s profile settings to make it behave the way they needed when used with Square.

If you haven’t already, I’d definitely recommend getting in touch with your printer or buzzer manufacturer’s support team, they may be able to suggest alternative configuration options that work with Square’s current capabilities.

Let us know how you go or if anyone else in the Community has found a workaround!
