I am looking for a reasonable workaround for the new Fairfax County, VA Meals Tax. The state tax applies no matter what, but the meals tax only applies if purchased as part of a meal - say a burger, fries and a can of soda. However if the only item that is purchased is a can of soda then the meals tax would not apply. We do a fair amount of both types of sales so I am hoping to find a solution that does not require a cashier to turn the meals tax on and off, if that makes sense.
