Dollar discounts versus percentage discounts

After spending HOURS on the phone the morning I was told there is STILL no easy to use dollar based discounts on individual items. This makes zero sense, considering the vast majority of discounts in bars/restaurants/entertainment are done by dollar, not by percentages. Square needs to FINALLY fix this ASAP! This is a huge problem that should be an extremely simple fix on their end, zero excuse for dollar based discounts to not be accessible on iOS.

What really make no sense is it works perfectly fine on Windows or Android, just not iOS which is the only possible option for their own square stands ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿคฆ

Hey Square, fix this problem!!

Hi @Driftless, I appreciate you posting on this!

I see there were a couple posts you made on other boards, and I went ahead and merged your duplicate posts to this single thread. We merge duplicate conversations together to keep like comments in one place, and to make it easier for others to find the thread in the future. I also want to make sure you've seen our Seller Community Code of Conduct. We ask Seller Community Members to not post the same message in multiple places, as it is not productive for our Moderators. Now that that is all explained, I would be happy to look into this for you.

Unfortunately, manual dollar discounts cannot be applied at the item level. They can only be applied to the entire sale.

I wish that there was a workaround for this, but not at this time. I can go ahead and send over your feedback to the proper teams on this though, and hopefully in the future this can be implemented.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know. I am here to help.

This seems to be a VERY long term issue with square not allowing dollar based discounts at the item level, you can ONLY access percentage discounts. (Or do dollar based discounts on the entire order, both of these options do not give the ability to do discounts correctly for individual item discounts). This obviously makes zero sense and needs to be fixed ASAP.

Many businesses (and wholesalers) offer dollar based discounts and for square to not even show it on individual items is a huge problem.

For example, if we sell a drink or food item we need to be able to have a $1.00 off, not "x" percentage off. Customers want to know exactly how much money they are saving on a special or discount, a percentage doesn't tell them that.

How can we get this project FINALLY fixed?!?!

That's the entire problem, there NEEDS to be able to use dollar discounts on items, not just percentages.

It makes zero sense that dollar discounts work perfectly fine on both windows and Android but now on iOS, which is what Square stand/register are. Why in the world would square engineers make something that functions correctly on platforms that are not Square specific, ie windows and Android, but not on iOS?!?! This needs to be fixed ASAP and should be an extremely simple fix since it already functions correctly on Android/Windows (this is obviously something done on purpose for some reason, which needs to be changed).

I understand. I wish that there was a way I could instantly implement this for you, but unfortunately there is not.

Our Engineering teams are aware of the inability to add dollar discounts on items, and I have sent over your feedback to our corresponding teams as well. I do not have any updates on this at this time though, but if I hear anything on any new changes, I will keep you posted.

You may have already done so, but feel free to add your suggestion to our Feature Request page on the Square Community. Our project managers occasionally will review that section to potentially implement changes for our products.

In the meantime, please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Square needs to fix this. Because the bigger problem not being accurately communicated to Square - is that Square does not currently calculate taxes due to the state accurately, due to how it calculates the discount - and THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM. Here is the example:
Shed price: $5,500
Online shed price: $5,000.

Someone wants to come in and buy shed in person. Because your online prices don't appear in POS (also super bizarre and terrible setup) - we have to add the discount to the order. BUT!

We also need to add a $500 labor charge (which is not part of the discount.) So thats:

Shed $5500

Labor: $500

Discount: $500

The taxes are getting calculated on your crazy "splice the discount all over all the items" system, so instead of collecting tax on $5000 on the shed, its collecting on a $5250 priced shed - which is the WRONG AMOUNT OF TAX TO COLLECT.

Honestly, I'm not sure how this hasn't brought Square down already? We need to be able to apply that $500 discount/credit at the ITEM level, or be able to tell a cart-level discount, to apply to whatever items on the sale we want. This can't be hard hard to implement, and you are making accounting impossible.
