I refunded a purchase and now my inventory is all out of control.
Does the refund restock the inventory? Or do i have to manally retsock 500 items?
Hey @Crazyjamlife. First, I see that you posted twice about this issue. The link to your other post about this same subject is here. One post is sufficient and any more just confuses things.
I think there might be some confusion about refunds/returns. For my post, I’m assuming that you are using the Retail POS since you are a retail store. When you find your transaction and click on “Return or exchange” you are given the option to either return items or an amount. If you click on the item(s) being returned, you will then be prompted to answer whether or not you are restocking that item as well as doing a refund. If you choose to restock it, your inventory counts will automatically be updated.
However if you choose to do a dollar-amount refund rather than an item return, then the assumption is that you aren’t restocking and so no inventory adjustment is made. This is logical since there could be more than one item on a transaction and the POS would not know which one, if any, is being restocked. Also, it could be that you are just adjusting an erroneous price that was charged, which also would not entail a stock adjustment. Anyway, you should never choose to refund a dollar amount if an item is being returned/restocked. Always choose the items being returned/refunded.
As to your other question in the post linked above, I’ll answer that there, along with providing a link to this post for future sellers to find.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
