Do automatic discounts work in Square Retail?

My shop uses Retail, and I saw that there is now an automatic discounts option. Will that be compatible with Retail? Or is it exclusive to the point of sale app?

@yishop Yep automatic discounts are also compatible with Square for Retail. 😀

You have to set up automatic discounts from your online Square Dashboard (in case you were looking in the Retail app!)

The title of this thread has been edited from the original: Sale Items in Store.

I have searched but cannot find a recent answer. Am I understanding this correctly?  We can place an item that is posted in our online store on sale but that sale price does not appear on our retail pos and there is no where that I can even find a sale price feature for the same item in the pos software. It appears we have to manually apply the discount at checkout. This makes it extremely time consuming to have to mark all my items in my physical store on sale when all I had to do on my online store is enter the sale amount. It makes it even more time consuming that now I have to go look at what Items I put on sale on my online store so I can properly place the same items on sale in my physical store but manually. This makes no sense to me. Am I not seeing how to do this automatically in my retail pos? If this isn't possible then there needs be a way to cross check those items and have the option to place the same items that we have on sale on our online store to have the sale in our physical store as well.

You're right - the sale price on your website will not reflect on your POS device.

However, you might be interested in setting up Automatic Discounts for limited time offers like Sales. I've moved your post so you can check out the get-started links on this thread.

There really needs to be a better way to add a sale price on a particular item in Retail POS.  Creating a discount for each item is very time consuming.  I certainly hope this is something they will be adding very soon.  From what I have read on the subject, its been almost a year since it was said it would hopefully be coming soon.  My fingers are crossed.  In the meantime, I'll be keying a whole bunch of discounts.

I agree.  I hope Square updates the retail app soon.  It would be nice to be able to show a Sale price and Regular Price on an individual item on in store purchases.  I had to delete all my Sale prices from my web items and just use the regular price option because the sync has can't change the sale.

Hi there - this is an area where we struggle as well.  I am hoping my post / comment will push this to the top.  I wish there was a way for in store pos and online could talk to each other. Its very time consuming to make multiple changes for the same item.
