Do I really need Square for Retail?

I have a small herb shop and only did about $50,000 in total sales last year. I have a small quantity of a LOT of items.  I used the regular Square system that helped me to track inventory for 2019.  However, now that I am doing taxes and my accountant wants a cost of goods statement of my leftover inventory at years end, I am discovering that is not something that has been tracked.  I am manually inputting prices on a spread sheet, and the idea of doing this ever again is daunting.  However, $60 a month for this one added feature seems extremely steep ($720 a year!) seeing as how I only have one location and no online store.  Is there something in between that I am missing?

It depends on what your time is worth.  Either you pay square $720 to add some functionality or you do it yourself on a spreadsheet.

i have not seen a compelling reason to upgrade to square retail.

Hey @Violet-

Thanks for posting in the Seller Community.

@MichiganFarmsta has some great input here. It's really up to you and your business needs. Square for Retail is great for sellers that need help tracking inventory, but also need features like barcode label creation, the ability to process exchanges, and purchase orders.

If you would only be upgrading to Square for Retail for the reporting/cost of goods sold functionality, I'm not sure if it would be worth the cost. Let me know if you have any questions about this.
