Do I need to disconnect chip reader before putting in the swipe reader ?

Hi folks,

Lately I've been getting a few cards which DON'T have CHIP or contactless options.  Typically they are the BoA issued EDD debit cards.  So I dig out the swipe reader that comes with my chip reader but the mag stripe can't be read.  I end up manually enter the card info.

Do I need to turn off Bluetooth (i.e. disconnect the chip reader) before using the swipe reader ?  Or is there something else I'm missing/doing wrong ?

Thanks for any advice.

Hello 👋 @trucare8

When using the Magstripe reader, you should not have to disconnect from Bluetooth or the contactless and chip reader. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can take a peek at should this happen again. Also, it may be that the cardholder's bank does not approve Square as a method of payment, in this case, they need additional verification from their bank.

Feel free to contact our Customer Success Team to help you troubleshoot this more in depth.

Thank you!
