When adding to an order the device with show order saved but doesn't in fact save the order. New checks also are not saving as they should.
Hi, @NickalenasGM ! Welcome to the Square Community!
This could be happening for a few different reasons. Square POS relies on a steady internet connection for syncing orders and checks. If Wi-Fi or cellular drops even briefly, the app might show “Order saved” locally but not push it through to the server.
If you’re not on the latest Square Point of Sale (or Square for Restaurants, if you’re using that), known bugs could cause saved orders to fail.
On iPads or Android tablets, too much cached data can cause the app to misfire when saving or depending on whether you’re using Square POS or Square for Restaurants, the terminology changes. If you’re running Restaurants, there have been reports where new checks don’t sync correctly if the POS is logged into multiple devices at once.
Troubleshooting Steps
Here’s what you can try right away:
Update the app — make sure you’re on the latest version of Square POS or Square for Restaurants from the App Store / Google Play.
Check connectivity — confirm your device has strong, stable Wi-Fi or cellular during the save.
Log out & back in — this can refresh the sync with the server.
Clear cache (Android) or restart device (iPad) to flush temporary glitches.
Test with another device — if you have Square logged in on another phone/tablet, see if saved orders appear there. If they don’t, it’s almost certainly a sync/server issue.
Check background syncing — in Settings → Checkout or Orders, make sure background sync and open tickets are enabled.
If It Continues
If this is Square for Restaurants, there is a known behavior where saved checks may not appear if another device is offline or logged out improperly. The fix usually involves ensuring all devices are online and syncing.
If this is regular Square POS, then it’s likely a device-specific issue (storage, network, or app version).
Try the troubleshooting steps above. If they do not work, let me know, and I will go back to the drawing board. I hope this helps!
