Customer Filtering

I love the customer filters to segment customers for email campaigns.  Today I wanted to target customers that haven't ordered from Oct 2020 to January 9th.

-I choose equals zero purchases and selected the time frame

 

The issue is it identifies new customers, those after Jan 9th as not having ordered during that same timeframe as well?

 

The result was customers that just came in got a heck of a deal:-)

 

Any suggestions on how to best filter moving forward?
