Confused about website builder?

Hello, I have been a Wordpress web designer for years, and find myself very confused about the Weebly/Square online store connection. I understand that Square owns Weebly, but the interface seems to be very different from the Weebly tutorials - and for someone used to Wordpress, very limited.

When I simply try to set up a Weebly account, it simply opens my online store. Is there a way to have access to all the features of Weebly that are not present on the Square site?

For example, I have logowear merchandise that I want to sell, and need to set up a page where folks can order that online, but can't find a way to add a second "order online" page with different items and a different navigation link.

Also, the map seems very limited, and I can't find a way to use my Google maps API? With the limitations in the site builder, I find the sites look pretty bland, including mine.

Any insight into these questions?

Thanks,

Marc Ravaris

Welcome, @El_Capitan - I should be able to point you in the right direction!

Since you're currently building out your website through your Square account, you'll want to stick with the resources available through our Support Center. Because the website editors are not 100% the same, different information will be available there. This guide will be your best starting point - we've got videos sprinkled through that article, or you can find our playlist of tutorials right here.

To access features of Weebly that are not currently present when building your website out through your Square account, you would need to create a Weebly account and create your website that way.

It isn't possible to add a second Order Online page - you may want to consider using Category pages instead. To use Category pages, you would need to switch templates from the Order Online page to the Shop All page.

Google provides some quick steps here for embedding a map, directions, or a location. Sounds like you'd prefer to use the Maps Embed API though. From a quick glance at Google's documentation, it looks as if you'll be provided with some code after following their directions. This article from our Support Center should provide some clarity about your options for embedding code on your website.

I hope this helps!

I am experiencing a lot of confusion and frustration with what I purchased and what I am seeing. I don't understand why everything here is Square when what I bought is Weebly and I don't have any features or themes or templates of sorts for that. I really need help!!

Hey @Miguelito914!

Thanks for posting in the Seller Community

Just to be clear here - do you already have a Weebly account? If you're working with Square, you should be able to go to Square Dashboard at squareup.com/dashboard and select Square Online. From there, you can build your site.

If you're still having trouble with this - please give us a call.

Yes I am still having issues. I signed up for Weebly not for square. I have no idea how I got to this place. I've created a site using what square has, but it's not what I paid for and not what I want.

Depending on what choice you make when you sign up, you'll either end up with the Square editor or the classic Weebly editor. Saying you want to sell will get you the former, and saying you don't want to sell/just want a website will get you the latter.

We don't have a way right now to convert accounts, so if you'd prefer to build a site with the classic Weebly editor then sign up on Weebly.com for a new account with a different email address. Choose the option that you don't want to sell right now/just want a website. Once you are done, let our support team know and they can move your site upgrade over to that account for you. I can also just refund your current upgrade so you can buy it again in the new account.

Hi! The great weebly/square editor debacle led me to this chat like many others.

Am I correct to assume your reply from 11/29/20 is still valid? I originally signed up with weebly through bluehost. At some point, I was prompted to choose between the 2 squareup templates: website vs online store. Did my choosing the latter irrevocably cost me access to the original weebly editor? I get it-square online has great options, allows a more personal experience, easy to use, etc etc etc. But..... what I, and soooooo many others, chose weebly (above all other options) for, is THE ORIGINAL WEEBLY EDITOR & ITS GLORIOUS THEMES!

So, let's talk turkey! What are my options at this point?

@LTES Welcome to the Seller Community and thank you so much for voicing your opinion on this. I can hear how important it is that this feature be available. I checked with @AdamB for you and unfortunately, this is still a feature request.

The only option is to make a new account and site and have our Support Team move any paid services over to the new account.
