Hopping in here knowing it's an ongoing issue. I saw @MayaP had answered this more directly on another thread, but didn't want to thread steal with a slightly different issue so posting here and crossing my fingers.
I uploaded inventory from an Excel spreadsheetusing the template OR by barcode scanning in the Square Retail app. . Everything is showing up as uncategorized even though it all has a category. I can't seem to fix this issue.
I also noticed that the costs aren't always "holding" (I have to enter them a couple of times).
Happy to share a dumbed down version or provide screenshots. Like others, I have read quite a few posts but am not finding the direct solution. Can someone add insight?

As you have stated you would share screen shots of your Items here are mine. For the Catalog under Category I have 28oz Triple Layer which shows in the Excel file and also the Screen Shot of my Square Dashboard Items under Category. When I sell this Item it ALSO has a Name of 28oz Spring Bouquet. When I make a Sale at the POS the Item Name of 28oz Spring Bouquet shows on the Screen and the Receipt. If you are using Square as just a Credit Card Processor or your Online store is the value is either Typed in by 'you' or your Online Store as a Custom amount for the Total Purchase amount. I ran into this when I first started. I had an older POS Register that would apply the Price, but when A Credit Card was used, I manually entered the Total Dollar amount on a Tablet for Credit Card Transactions through Square. Same with my Online store that used Square as payment gateway.
So depending on How your Items are showing in your Dashboard AND how you process a Credit Card transaction this could be why your items are showing as a Custom amount. Also do you have a Price in your Price column for the amount you charge or is it blank and you enter the $ amount at the time of sale? All this factors into what is shown on a receipt or transaction file.
But if you could show screen shots and your Process of Transactions it would be more helpful.
