After adding cash management function, it only asked for drawer count the first time we logged in

We have Square for Retail and added the cash drawer mgt function today.  When I logged it, it asked me to count the cash. But when I logged out, it didn't ask me to count the cash. And when I logged back in, it also didn't ask me to count it.

Hi there @lizamiller.  Cash counting is a function of closing and opening drawers.  Did you close the drawer at the end of the day (or whenever?)

Thanks so much for your reply. I'm not sure how to "close the drawer." We used to have a different POS, and it automatically made us "close the drawer" and count the cash when we were logging out and ending our shift. Do we have to proactively choose to close the drawer, and if so is there a button for it? Thanks!

@lizamiller First, it will help to understand that Square allows for the possibility of businesses that only need to reconcile cash occasionally — say on a weekly basis.  Regardless, here are the steps to close a drawer when you want to do so:

  1. From Square POS App:

    • Open the app and tap ≡ More.
    • Tap Reports > Current Drawer.
    • Tap End Drawer.
    • Enter the cash amount in the drawer and an optional description.
    • Tap End Drawer.
  2. From Square Dashboard:

    • Sign in and click Reports > Cash Drawers.
    • Select the cash drawer session to end.
    • Click End Drawer, enter the cash amount, and an optional description.
    • Click End Drawer.
