Ability to add a % discount for two identical items in a category

Hi there,

I'm trying to add a automatic % discount when a customer buys 2 identical cocktails, and sadly learned that is not possible. The closest thing is the same thing but for any two items in a  category.

Hopefully, it makes sense, and it would be great if you guys could add this feature asap,

Thanks for writing in with this request! After some testing on my account, you can set up an automatic percentage-based discount when 2 or more of the same item are purchased. Here's how:

1. In your Square Dashboard, head to Items > Discounts.

2. Select Create a Discount.

3. Enter the discount name and percentage and toggle discount rules on.

4. Choose Quantity to create a quantity-based discount. 

5. Next, enter how many items need to be purchased in order to qualify for the discount, and select the discount rule. 

Note: there are a few options here, exact quantity, minimum quantity, and buy one, get one. Chose the discount that suits your needs best, but it sounds like exact quantity might be what you're after. You can also adjust how many items need to be purchased in order to qualify in the field I've highlighted.

If I understand correctly, I have to create the same discount as above for each cocktails?

With the steps I shared above, you can create a discount that will apply when two identical products are purchased. 

If you have a list of cocktails that are only discounted when another identical cocktail is purchased, then yes, you'd have to create discounts for each of the cocktails, e.g a Buy 2 get 20% off Gin & Tonic, Buy 2 get 20% off Negroni discount and so on to. 

This means that the discount is only applied when 2 or more of the same item are purchased, rather than to any of the items you've added to the discount.

Yes it makes sense @Arie 

Unfortunetely, it makes it's very painful to manage this discount when you have multiple restaurants and 50+ cocktails in each, for example: everytime you add a new product, you must NOT forget to add the discount also...

We will just manage with manual discounts, it'll be less dangerous overal.

Anyway, hopefully SQUARE will allow to us to do this in the future (we need an option "same item" or "any item" ),
