Why is my stock quantity grayed out?

When I create a new listing, I am not able to put in the amount of stock that is available; the option is grayed out. Why is that?

Yeah, the way the stock screens are laid out confused me for quite some time. The Stock line (where your arrow is) is where Square will show you the total stock as you make modifications to your inventory count. Use the line above (Add stock) to enter your stock totals. The Stock line will update to show you the counts.
