Why does the Real Time Shipping, using Shippo, so EXPENSIVE to the customer?

Hey Sellers! 

 

I'm just reaching out the ask why, even though Shippo was integrated into our Square Online websites, why we are still limited with automated shipping and the Real-Time Shipping charging my customers an insane amount of money. Now let me preference by saying that I've been using Shipstation recently to ship out perishable items because no matter the size, they give me the option for FedEx One Rate.

 

Now while this is available on Shippo as well, the customer isn't able to get the same rate I do at checkout. So when I pay $25 for a 2 Day label, the customer will be prompted with a $70 label. Like come on, if you were a customer you'd never visit the website again if you saw that. So now I'm forced to set a "fixed" price for shipping instead of using the premium shipping service that I am paying for. 

 

What is annoying, is the fact that we aren't given the option to select a carrier provided box on Square fulfillment menu in the settings either, which Shippo needs you to select on their platform in order to get the FedEx One Rate Option to even appear. So if I'm shipping within the state, what will cost me $12 to ship, I am forced to now charge the customer $29.99. Now again as a business this is great in terms of profit, but in terms of wanting returning customers, this makes it significantly harder. With that said, because of the product I'm selling, I'd rather make profit on the product itself rather than on the shipping. 

 

If you're wondering why I don't just raise the price of the product and do free shipping, is because that would be the same issue where a customer that lives within the state will be paying full price as someone who lives in a Zone 8 shipping area and I'd still be left with the customer here in the state not wanting to purchase again in the future because of the cost. 

 

My suggestion is to try creating more of a connection between Shippo and Square. For instance, shared settings between Shippo and Square, where If you change something on Square fulfillment settings, the appropriate changes will be automatically changed on Shippo. Or letting us change the RTS provider to other service like Shipstation. Or even better giving us more control over the shipping settings.

 

I'll be honest, I've been on the fence on changing platform because of shipping issues and I don't want to if I don't need to. I'm not sure if anyone else has this issue I'm facing but I hope I spread some light on it.

I had a question with Shippo about sending QR codes for return labels.  I contacted Shippo directly and they were very quick in a rep getting with me to help me out.  I would encourage you to reach out to them and see if they could help you.  They seem to be making improvements with their service to make things better for small business owners.
