Why are items on my website store not showing in the categories they are assigned to on my dashboard

I have MANY items that when I look at them on my dashboard they have the correct categories selected.  However, when I just go into my website as though I am a customer, there are many items that are not showing up when I try to shop by category.  As an example, on my dashboard, a particular category will say "60" items, but when I try to shop by that category it only shows "40" results; which means that 20 of my items are not categorized on my website even though they are on my dashboard.  Emailed Square, but of course no response.  To fix this I have been going into my dashboard items, one by one, and verifying against my website store.  If the item doesn't show up in the proper category then I am going into the item on my dashboard, deleting the categories, saving, then re-entering the categories, and saving again.  UGGGHHH.  Anyone know why this happened?  Anyone know a good way to fix this?  Anyone know how to give Square a good piece of my mind?  Thank you in advance.

This could be a caching issue or a sync problem between the backend and the front-end display of your website. Here are a few suggestions to help you resolve the problem and save some time:

Step 1: Clear Your Website Cache

Sometimes the issue could be related to a caching problem where the website is not displaying the most recent updates from the dashboard. Try clearing your browser cache or use a different browser or incognito mode to see if the issue persists.

Step 2: Sync Dashboard with Website

If the categories are correct in your dashboard, but not showing on your website, it's possible that the sync between the two has not updated. Hereโ€™s how you can attempt to re-sync:

  1. Unpublish and Republish Your Website:
    • Go to your Square Online Dashboard.
    • Unpublish your site and then republish it. This forces Square to update the content between the dashboard and your live website.
  2. Recheck Category Settings:
    • Double-check your category settings for each item on the dashboard. Sometimes, if an item is categorized under more than one category, it may not show up correctly.
    • Make sure the category is assigned to each item, and that there are no conflicts in the categorization.

Step 3: Use the Bulk Editor

If you need to reassign categories for multiple items, rather than doing it one by one, you can use the Bulk Editor in Square:

  1. Go to the Items section of your Square Dashboard.
  2. Select Bulk Actions at the top.
  3. Use "Edit Categories" to select and assign the correct categories to multiple items at once.

This will save time if you have many items to correct.

Step 4: Review Product Visibility Settings

Check that all products are set to be visible on your website:

  • Go to the item details and make sure the visibility settings are set correctly for each product to appear in the online store.

Step 5: Check for Website Theme Issues

Sometimes, the issue may lie in the website theme or design settings. If youโ€™re using a custom theme or have made changes to the layout, ensure that itโ€™s properly configured to show all products in the assigned categories.

Step 6: Test with New Items

Create a new item with the correct category and see if it appears on your website. This will help determine if the issue is with all items or just the existing ones.

Step 7: Reach Out to Square Support (Again)

If the issue continues, it might be necessary to follow up with Square Support. You can also request to speak with a technical support team member who can help resolve syncing issues between your dashboard and website. ๐Ÿ™‚
