Unable to upload images to website

Anyone have a fix for uploading images to the website? All images I try uploading show up as flashing grey boxes like they are loading but never appear. They show up just fine under my images though

@Joe33 @welcome to the community.  This is just a few things that come to mind with your images not loading.

1. Try clearing your browser cache or using a different browser. Sometimes browser extensions (like ad blockers) can interfere with image loading

2. Even if they upload, very large images or certain formats might not render correctly. Try:

  • JPG or PNG format
  • Under 2MB per image (just to be safe)
  • Standard resolution (around 1200px on the longest side)

I use an image compressor to reduce the file size without compromising on the photo quality. Since I’m old 😀 and have been maintaining a website since the late 1990s, I’ve always maintained my image size in kilobytes instead of megabytes. This practice was necessary during the days of dial-up modems.

😀

Thank you for the reply. It is happening on Chrome and Edge. I have tried clearing the cache as well. The pictures are JPG, Size: 378KB, and I adjusted the resolution to be 1200x842 pixels. Still happening so not sure what is going on.

Hello @Joe33

Your first post here in the Community, welcome!

Great tips shared with you here, thanks @rtfulk

I was just a little confused by the flashing gray boxes mentioned. Are these appearing in your site editor? Or on the published site?

If on the published site, it would be helpful to look at the site. Please share the URL to your published site if this is the case.

Thank you

Sorry for the late reply! Been working on the website whenever I can. It is on the site builder. I've tried deleting them and the group also and recreating them but still the same problemCapture.JPG

@Joe33  Try making your photo 1200 x 1200 and see if that fixes it, the rectangular image size you have may be causing the image not to show. Also you don't have any special characters in the filename, like $%&* the image won't show if you have any special characters in the filename.

Hopefully this will fix the problem.

Still no working. The weird thing is that a month or two ago the photos were displaying fine. Then all of a sudden they stopped working. Next step is to try calling their support line to get some help that way. Thanks for all your help!

You said they were working a month or so ago, by chance you are not linking your photos from a third party source like Google drive or other site? The reason I ask is the link could've change and become broken. Or do you drag and drop the images to the box below the description box?

One other thing you could try/test is:

Upload a fresh JPG or PNG (just a simple test image)

Drop it into a new image block

Hit Publish

View the site in an incognito window

The reason you would want to test in a incognito window is .

1. Clears the Cache
Your browser normally saves pieces of websites (like images) to load them faster later. But if something changed—like your image got replaced, renamed, or fixed—the browser might still be showing you the old, broken version.

Incognito mode forces the browser to load the freshest version of your site from scratch.

2.  Bypasses Cookies & Stored Sessions
If you’re logged into Square in regular mode, it might show you an “editor’s preview” version or behave differently. Incognito mode acts like a new visitor seeing the published site—just like your customers would.

Once you’re in the incognito window. Go to your live Square website link. See if the images show up properly.

How to Open an Incognito Window:
Chrome: Ctrl+Shift+N (Windows) or ⌘+Shift+N (Mac)

Firefox: Ctrl+Shift+P or ⌘+Shift+P

Safari: File → New Private Window

Edge: Ctrl+Shift+N

Hopefully one of these will work.

Unfortunately not. I tried uploading a random image with 1200x1200 pixels the was a small size into a new image box on the page in an incognito browser. Still the same thing. One thing I have noticed is that when I have the Square website editor open and the flashing image boxes present it seems to take a lot of my computer's resources.
