URL issue for categories in Square Online

Hi

I am having an issue with URLS for categories.

As an example, please see the screenshot below. I've set the permalink to /cakes-menu

which should make the url https://www.lulietbakery.com/shop/cakes-menu

but that link takes you a 404 (page not found )

When I see the preview of how the search engine sees this category page it lists the URL as:
https://www.lulietbakery.com/shop/cakes-menu/JUTJBQZZ6IL4RSP32O27CKVO

Also this link works too

https://www.lulietbakery.com/shop/cakes-menu/5

Not sure what's causing this issue or how to fix it.

Please help if you can

Thanks

Hi @TheRealChipA

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

"But based on your description, I think I understand your problem.  Most of it seems to be based in a misunderstanding of permalinks, which allow us to jump to any section of a page."

I could be wrong but anchor links are what are used to jump to a section of the page. Permalinks are the permanent URL for the category.

When I go to set the permalink within the SEO section of the category settings, I'm setting it as /cakes-menu which should make the link https://lulietbakery.com/shop/cakes-menu/

The problem is that the system adds additional characters to the URL by itself. That was my question: How to keep Square online from changing the URL and sticking with the permalink I set.

@lulietbakery My apologies.  I do not know where by brain was when I posted that initial reply earlier today.  FYI, in order not to confuse anyone else (as I did you and myself!), I'm going to remove that post.  Now, to your actual question....

Here is a link to a similar post here in the Community.  While this post refers to permalinks at the product level, the same would apply to permalinks at the category level, too.  Specifically, I refer you to the reply from @Summer2024. It seems that those added characters, etc, are something that is part of the URL.  All you are changing for what you thought was a permalink was just the "slug" portion, to use Summer's words here.  And, since I tagged Summer, hopefully she can and will weigh in with any further notes or clarifications.

Again, my apologies for answering a completely different question than the one you asked!
