There is a major flaw in the tax settings of Square Online in the UK. You can select item-level tax rates for pickup, delivery and QR code orders BUT you cannot set item-level tax rates for shipping orders. This is a major flaw because you either have to put 20% on all orders or not charge VAT via Square Online - either way is not possible for us.
We run a food/gift business so a lot of our products are 0% VAT but some are also 20% VAT (we have over 2500 products) so we need it to accurately calculate VAT on orders.
I don't understand why this has a setting for pickup and local delivery orders BUT NOT shipping orders.
At present, we are unable to launch our new Square Online website without this issue being addressed.
I have raised this issue with our account manager who came back to say it was a flagged feature request by the advanced support team but really this issue needs to be addressed ASAP. I notice it was raised late last year by another user so I doubt it will be fixed anytime soon but this is really a issue that needs sorting.
All it needs is an option to check, like it does for other fulfillment options, for 'Apply item-level taxes to shipping orders'.

I completely understand your frustration that such a critical issue is still unresolved. When managing thousands of products with varying VAT rates, an all-or-nothing tax setting simply isn’t viable. Hopefully, the product team prioritizes this soon, especially since multiple businesses have raised it already.
In the meantime, it may be helpful to regularly contact your account manager to push for updates, and continue sharing how it directly affects your ability to launch the site.
I will pass this along to advanced support as well to keep the conversation going as much as possible.
