Tip auto-calculation is missing modifier dollar amounts

We have tipping as an option in our online store.  We sell pizza (photo below shows the issue).  So you may order a pizza for $18.50, but then choose to add pepperoni (which is part of a modifier menu), which takes you to $21.25.  However, when you go to checkout, the tip is being auto-calculated based on the original amount of $18.50 and not including the modifier additional dollar value.  Obviously folks can do a custom tip as well, but most just pick 15% and don't think about it, or notice that the tip is not being calculated correctly.  Why would it not include modifiers when it calculates the tip?  This seems really basic that the tip should include modifiers.  And I believe in our in-house ordering Square for Restaurants, it does indeed calculate correctly.

Hey there @tinafoundation.  The modifier issue is NOT your problem here.  See my screen shot below, showing that tip suggestions are taking into account modifiers — as it was designed and as it works for most all of us.  So one of two things is going on here.

  1. I don’t see sales tax anywhere in the screen shot your provided.  Is it possible that your sales taxes are INCLUDED in your item price?  If so, then $21.25is NOT your item price, since part of the $21.25 is sales tax.  To determine your true item price, you need to divide $18.50 by (1+sales tax).  In my state, my sales taxes rate is 6% so $21.25/ 1.06 =$20.05.
  2. If you aren’t using inclusive sales taxes, then there is an issue in your Square account that needs to be escalated.

Please let me know which it is and if needed I’ll tag a few moderators here for further actions.

Why do you say that the modifer is not the issue? You reference a screenshot that demonstrates that the tip suggestions are taking into account modifiers, but I don't believe you attached anything.  At least nothing that I can see in the thread.

Sales tax is not inclusive in my item prices.  It just wasn't included in the screen shot. Our sales tax here is 8%, and that wouldn't be the issue.

$18.50 x 20% = $3.70

This is the amount showing as the tip associated with 20%.

I've included an additional screen shot that shows the tax line.

Ok. Sorry  I forgot the screen shot from my store. It’s above. I’m going into a meeting now. But I’ll recommend you can Square Support. This looks like a problem in your account. Also I’m tagging a few Square moderators who might be able to help.

@_Violet @MayaP @RobynR @Katie_SQ @JJ_ @Summer2024 suggested tops are working for me, and including modifiers. Not working for @tinafoundation.  Any thoughts? Seems like a bug or account issue to me.
