Square Terminal Sales Report - Refunds not flowing thru to Category/Item Sales

Currently the Square Terminal Sales Report reports on Category & Item Sales as Gross rather than Net - not taking into account Refunds of Items/Category. This is misleading.

Further when comparing to the Square Online Category/Item Sales Report, the items/units sold is at the Gross Qty whereas the $ amount is the Net Amount (despite having a heading of Gross Sales). Again misleading.

Would be good to have the option to choose Gross &/or Net in the reporting.

Needed if tracking inventory.

Hey @MBSLSC,

Thanks for your feedback!

Have you checked out the reporting features available for your Square account from the Online Dashboard? I'd recommend this as the best place to view reports as you'll have a lot more options here than the basic reporting features within the app, including a breakdown of both gross and net sales for a selected time frame. You can read more about reporting features on Dashboard here.

I don't have a Square Terminal at hand to view the reporting features here, but if what you're saying is correct, this sounds like a bug. I checked the report on the app on an iPhone and it seemed to be working ok there, however I am aware that the iOS and T2 (a custom Android build) instances of the app are different, so behaviour on an iPhone doesn't really reflect what you'd see on a Terminal.

I'd recommend getting in touch with support for further assistance here - if they can confirm there is a bug in how these reports are displayed (eg using the terminology "Gross" when it's actually displaying "Net") they'll be able to escalate the issue further to our engineering team! You can call our support team on 1800 760 137, lines are open Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm Melbourne time.

Hi Seamus,

Yes I've checked out the reporting features available on the Online Dashboard.

It is a bit confusing with the various headings and how they are calculated - probably need a definitions page.

On the Item Sales report it has Gross Sales (which is Net before fees & maybe discounts as I haven't used). Whereas Items Sold is before returns.
Example: Item is $1 each. 4 items were sold & 2 items were returned. The report shows Items/Units Sold as 4; Items/Units Returned as 2; Gross Sales as $2; Product Sales as $3.64 (which I'm guessing is $4 less fees), Returns as -$1.82 (which I'm guessing is -$2 less fees); Net Sales as $1.82 (which I'm guessing is Gross less fees).

@MBSLSC I wish I could take a further look at this for you, but in this case you'll actually need to get in touch with support to take an overall look at your reports and figures to clarify what's happening here.

It'll require support gaining permission from you to look into how things appear on your dashboard and reports, which is private account information that we're not able to view via our community forum. Thanks for understanding!
