Square Online: Is there a 'vacation' mode?

The title of this thread has been edited from the original: vacation mode

I use square for vendor events and looking to add an online store. Is there a way to put the online store on hold / vacation mode when at an event so that sale do not overlap or get double purchased?

Hi @Willixherbals!

Welcome to the community, and thanks for resurfacing this post. It’s interesting to understand why this would work well for your business.

While we still don’t offer ‘vacation mode’ per-se, there are a few features you could utilize during the time that you’re not trading.

If your business primarily ships items, you could simply disable online ordering during your vacation period. You’ll find this option under Online > Settings > Checkout.

If going down this route, I’d suggest adding a pop-up banner, or message to the homepage of your site to let your customers know when you’ll be back in business.

If you offer mostly pick up or local delivery, then you can edit your fulfillment settings so that customers are aware that their order won't be ready for up to 30 days in advance.

Alternatively, you could add restricted dates for the period that you’ll be taking time out.

You’ll find these options under: Online > Fulfillment > Pickup/Delivery.

I hope these suggestions go some way towards helping you take that important R&R, while keeping your customers informed.

Hey there, @HMBS

Welcome to the Community!

While we don't have a "vacation mode" option for the Online Store - there are a couple of options that would accomplish what you're thinking.

Option 1: Change your items to unavailable, so your customers don't have anything to select for ordering.

Option 2: Under Settings > Pick-up & Delivery > You can switch those off.

Please let me know if you were looking for something different or this doesn't do the trick.

I think it would be a good idea for square to add a vacation mode for small business that take time off personally I take most of the summer off and would like to leave a message on my store saying why and when I'll be back so I don't loose out on customers or have sales not be able to be shipped out.

I agree.  Turning off online ordering for us is not a good idea because we want to continue allowing orders out in the distance beyond the holiday week when we are gone.
