Separate Categories, Items, Prices between online and physical store

Just ended a call with Square support and learnt that I can't separate categories, items and prices between online store and physical location POS.

Square should add the below features asap:

  1. User should be able to set categories to be displayed only online, only on POS or both.
  2. User should be able to set items to be displayed only online, only on POS or both.
  3. User should be able to set separate prices for same item displayed only online, only on POS or both.

We have hundreds of products that cannot be stocked in a physical store due to limited space but will be sold online. I am sure there are many users like me.

I will probably have to find a different platform for our online store. Spent so much time to design everything, now that I am ready to add products ..... it's frustrating.

Solution

Hello there, @arkessence

Thank you for reaching out here after not getting a successful resolution with our Support Team. I can offer a workaround that can help you.

You can potentially separate your Square Online items to a dedicated "Online" Location in Square and then mark your items as only available "in this location,". Then you can mark Categories for this location as visible online. This way, your Point of Sale will be logged into your physical location, and your Square Online items and inventory will be the online location.

Here is our guide to Manage Multiple Location with Square.

Let me know if you have other questions.

Solution

Thank you for your suggestion. I will keep that in mind.

After some research this is what I did:

  1. I created some categories with "-POS" names and marked them hidden for online.
  2. Added them to Favorite in the check out device at the store.
  3. Trained my team members to use items only from favorite for checkout at the store.
  4. I also created some items that are specific to the physical store and not to be displayed online so that we can set different prices and package deals.
  5. When I have items I need to show in POS and online at the same time, I add them to categories for both POS and online.
  6. I realized that the online categories and items are still showing up in the POS which might actually be beneficial in the long run when we get busier and need accurate accounting and reporting.

This approach is working so far.

Regards.

Kazi.

Glad to hear you've found a setup that work for you @arkessence !

I've gone ahead and mark your reply as the solution. That way, it'll be easier for other sellers with similar issues to find what they need.
